Ms Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills

“When I announced the formation of the LGBTI Inclusive Education Working Group to Parliament back in 2017, I said we all have a responsibility to support our children and young people to be confident and proud of who they are, to know that they are valued and loved, and to know that they will be treated equally and fairly.

This resource is a welcome and valuable addition in equipping teachers and those working with children and young people to achieve that aim. Through providing our children and young people with greater understanding and appreciation of LGBT issues, histories and identities we are building an education system which supports all Scotland’s young people to reach their full potential and flourish in a diverse and inclusive society.

The central ethos of Scottish education is one of inclusion. Inclusion is the cornerstone to help us to achieve excellence and equity in education for all our children and young people. By delivering LGBT inclusive education, we have reaffirmed our commitment to putting the needs of each and every child and young person at the heart of our approach, enabling us to get it right for every child.”
